Being a Cub
When you join Cubs, you’ll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things. Here’s everything you need to know:
In Todmorden we have two Cub groups, the 8th Calder Valley Cubs and the 26th Calder Valley Cubs.
The 8th meet every Tuesday, with doors opening at 17:15 for a 17:30 start and will finish at 18:45.
The 26th meet every Thursday, with doors opening at 17:45 for a 18:00 start and will finish at 19:15.
Both groups are run by leaders Ben and Brian, who will let you know which group your cub will join
Activities and what you’ll get up to
At Cubs we take part in lots of different activities, these include: badgework, walks outside when the weather allows is and lots of fun games! These activities help build Cub’s teamwork, communication and life skills! To see some of the activities we may get up to, follow the link below to the official Scouts page to get a better understanding of what we do. We will also run Cub camps, which usually will be over a few days, where we get up to all sorts of outdoor fun!
To keep up to date with upcoming activities and camps, we will contact parents/carers via email and OSM (Online Scout Manager) with details and dates. You should receive an email before each session with information of things your cub may need and what we are up to!
Another easy way to keep up to date with Cubs is through following our Facebook page!
Awards
A part of badgework includes working towards awards and challenge badges! The highest award a Cub can earn is the Chief Scout Silver award, which would include earning the seven Challenge Awards and six Stage/Activity badges. There are many badges and awards to work towards in Cubs, some of which will stay with you until the end of Explorers!
Cub Promise
As a values based movement we all make the ‘The Promise’ an oath that helps us to be our best.
Moving up to Scouts
Eventually, it’ll be time to say farewell to Cubs and embrace your next big adventure.
We typically move Cubs up to Scouts when they turn 10 and a half, however due to the large number of Scouts we have, Cubs will usually be moved up in small groups before their 11th birthday. We will contact parents/carers via email or OSM when it is their Cub’s time to move up!
